PROJECT: BALLARAT AVENUE OF HONOUR MANAGEMENT PLAN
LOCATION: CITY OF BALLARAT, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA
CLIENT: CITY OF BALLARAT
COLLABORATION: AVENUE OF HONOUR MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE, HERITAGE VICTORIA, VICROADS, TREELOGIC
Preparation of a detailed heritage study, and arboricultural streetscape and landscape assessment of the 22 kilometre long historic memorial avenue of honour, thought to be the longest dedicated memorial avenue in the world. The avenue was planted in 1919 to commemorate each of the almost 4,000 local fallen soldiers from World War One.
Many of the mature trees were in decline, and many of the individual brass commemorative plaques were missing or damaged, and the detailed study provides a strategy and management plan for the Avenue’s rejuvenation, which is now well underway.
