PROJECT: CHONGMING DAO SPORTS CITY MASTERPLAN

Masterplan for a major new city development, with an integrated sporting theme, making this the ‘Ironman’ headquarters for China. The design evolves around a major new lake and 2 kilometres of widened local river, to create an international rowing competition site, with related Olympic sports venues. A traditional Jiangsu watertown pedestrian street will run the length of the adjacent river edge promenade. The main sporting events and facilities will include international ironman headquarters complex and competition facilities; triathlon; junior ‘Ironman’ sports; marathon lake edge trail and bicycle path; mountain bike facility; motocross stadium; Ultra BMX facility; indoor water park; indoor adventure recreation park; and indoor shooting range. The development will coincide with an extension to Shanghai’s subway system, with a central metro transport hub.
